So I understand if you hire a contractor to do work in your property you are supposed to get his insurance info in case things go awry. Would I follow the same procedure for an electrician? There's one coming by my place tomorrow to take a look and give me a quote. Just need to know what I should ask him before he starts a job. More»

I found this electrician from others' recommendations on brownstoner and want to add mine. His name is Alan Riback, 718-284-0920 (wirelights.com). He installed a cooktop and oven for me, as well as the outlet for the diswasher. He was professional and pleasant to deal with and was able to fit in this small job so that I didn't have to wait forever. He dealt effectively with an unexpected complication and didn't charge extra. I highly recommend him and will call on him myself for any future electrical work. More»

Also, any opinion as to whether those 5 or 10 year service plans that stores often sell with appliance are worth it? In the past, we have refused them but now am t... More»

I havent done an inspection yet, but i'm thinking it would be hard for me to gauge what needs to be done. I feel I get a contractor involved and ask them they would just say I should update it.
