  • handyman hourly rates

We've been looking for a reliable handyman to perform some simple, yet tedious and time-consuming jobs around the house. Our neighbours gave us a few recommendations, but those guys are quoting us $40/hr or even $50/hr.
I never had to hire handymen before, but those rates seem preposterously high to me. How much do people in brooklyn normally pay for a reliable handyman?  More»

Brownstoner should really make a template for posts like these: "I want someone reliable. The job is simple. It's tedious, time-consuming and backbreaking. Simple as it is, I don't have the skills, and would never do work like this anyway. Nor do I have the time, focus or muscle. And did I forget t...... See More »

  • Handyman Rec

Hi, I just wanted to add to the chorus of recommendations for Brian Piersol. I found him here on Brownstoner and hired him to repair the drywall from a washer/dryer hookups install. The plumbers made a real mess of things and Brian did a fantastic job fixing the walls. He even replaced one of the drain connections that the plumbers didn't seal properly. He was professional, pleasant, on time, very tidy, and a total perfectionist. I recommend him highly. His phone number is 646-831-6481 his email is piersol33@gmail.com.  More»

  • Air conditioner installation

Just purchased a new 12,000 BTU window A/C unit which I thought I could install on my own since I'd done the last one, but didn't realize that the old one had a slide-in chassis, which makes for a much easier installation and this one does not. Wouldn't need a heavy-duty HVAC person, just someone handy enough to know how to do this and strong enough to lift the damned thing. Has some potential trickiness since it is going into a window that has a storm window and that makes the whole leveling thing a little tricky. Anyone know of anyone? I'm in Boerum Hi...  More»

  • thru-wall A/C installation- vinyl siding

Hi- Looking for some input from any regular Brownstoner readers on companies who do thru-wall A/C installation. We live in a detatched frame, and are looking for some help with this- a top floor installation, with vinyl siding. Anyone have experience with contractors who have done similar?
I'm likely to do the framing and inside wall prep and finish, but don't have a ladder for the outside, or the siding knowledge and materials.
