Coop Renovation

5:02 PM 04/29/2012

Hi all, my wife and I are considering purchasing a 2BR coop apt that will need significant work before we can move our family into the space.
These renovations will include some or all of the following: bathroom removal, bathroom installation, closet removal, closet construction, kitchen modifications, radiator moving, floor refinishing, painting, and trim work. Our intention is to work with someone who can help us decide on the scope of work.
As we are looking to buy and then renovate the apartment we would like to start working with a contractor now for two reasons: 1. so we know what we are getting ourselves into before we sign our lives away on a mortgage, 2. so we can use the renovation costs when negotiating the purchase place,
We are not looking for high end finishes, just reliable and honest work.
Any recommendations would be appreciated.

I would suggest that you also get an architect involved at the same time.  You will need one to prepare plans for the coop board and the DOB.  They will also be able to give you direction on fixture and finish options and a second opinion on costs.

I can introduce you to a few different contractors for additional estimates and of course can offer a range of architectural and design services to help you through the process.
