MIA contractor and Alt-2 Permit DOB Final Inspection.

Enter Your Question AWOL Contractor and DOB final inspection
My contractor took out an Alt-2 permit(vacant 3 family brownstone) and he eventually walked off the job leaving me holding the bag after he failed Con Ed inspection(isn't returning phone calls.)However, most of the work on the scope of work listed on the permit was completed. He moved two kitchens and a bathroom, brand new mechanicals. Can I hired some else to finish the issues con ed wants fixed (i already know i am going to need a new electrical permit) and then call DOB myself and schedule a final inspection without my contractor being present? If i can't what options do I have? Also, I read I have a year after the permit expires before I have to schedule a final inspection, Can I live in the house without a final inspection? Thanks.

P.S. Any recommendations on lawyers that have experience going after licensed and insured contractors? He's screwed so bad is not even funny but right now my main priority is finishing the renovations and getting this house inspected.

You should name the contractor to save others the pain of hiring them.

You need to hire a new contractor to close out the project.  Your guy most likley went out of business.  Your permit will expire when his insurance on file does.  You should check to see when that is.

If he was licensed, contact Dept of Consumer Affairs to find out what you need to do to make a claim for the additional amount that it is going to cost you.
