Lumberyard?

3:28 PM 07/12/2011

What lumberyards convenient to the south slope have people had good experiences with? I'm doing a fencing project in the next couple of weeks, and will need a couple hundred board feet of cedar 1x6, ideally delivered. Thanks in advance!

I know you said convenient to the south slope but if you are buying that much cedar, you may wish to check with Riverhead Lumber in Mineola.  I am not sure dressed cedar 1x6 is sold by the board foot, I would guess it is lineal.  But if you are speaking board feet, you are talking about 800 feet lineal (give or take, when we buy lumber by the board foot and dress it, we always lose some).  I bought some cedar at Riverhead a couple of years ago and if I recall correctly, their price was about a buck less a lineal foot than Dykes.  Riverhead will deliver to Brooklyn.  I will say one thing for the Dykes cedar as I bought some their last week; it is kiln dried and the quality is high; no knots.

I like Dykes lumber am not sure how close they are but they are good. I know the manager in the Bronx branch Charlie he has always been very nice and helpful to me. But I am sure they have a closer one to you.
