Paint Recycling/Reuse

10:46 AM 10/18/2011

We just finished repainting our apartment and I bought too much paint.  I've lived in other cities which have had building-materials co-ops, where people could donate surplus materials for a tax deductions, and the co-op sold the supplies at discount prices.  Does anyone know if that exists in NYC?
Alternatively, I've got extra gallons of Benjamin Moore laytex in eggshell finish, 2109-50 through 2109-70.  I bought them at Pintchik within the past 6 weeks, and they've never been opened.  The colors are attractive purple/brown/grays.  Normally, they'd be about $35/gallon, but I'll sell them for $10, just to get them out of the apartment.  If you're interested, leave a note with an email address here.

I'd suggest Craig's List or Freecycle if you don't get action here.

Build it Green would probably take them. They are in Queens. You can also try Film Biz Recycling in Gowanus.

You might be able to get a tax deduction if you donate the paint to Materials for the Arts: http://www.mfta.org/.
