add a kitchen

8:47 PM 01/22/2013

I have a 3 story 2 family brownstone... 3 yrs ago I added a kitchenette to the 2nd floor for my son... not a rental, strictly for family use.  I was recently told this is illegal... is this true?   If it is what steps would it take to make it legal (costs) and what are the consequences if I am suddenly inspected???
Thanks in advance...

    1.  Who told you it was illegal and under what basis?  Yes, if you added it without permits it may be a problem if you get inspected.
    2.  You don't have to let inspectors in.
    3.  Does the added kitchen conform to the stated floorplan arrangement of the C of O?

    • 1- just found out (get this) a friend got inspected by 4 firemen in their FULL GEAR2- he said a tenet unwittingly opened the door 3- yes it does conform... but since i did not use permits, again, what are the steps/costs to make it legal and what are the consequences if I am suddenly inspected???

yes, it's illegal, but what do you care? the DOB does not do spontaneous spot checks. if they did, the entire borough would be in violation of SOMETHING.
