Bakery aroma in south slope (15th/8th avenue)

6:11 PM 01/22/2012

This delicious bakery aroma appears around several blocks, with the epicenter approximately around 15th St/8th Ave, almost every weekday evening. Anyone know where it originates from?
thanks!

What you are smelling, cinnamon i believe, is the Mexican bakery located at 404 15th street.  They are a strictly commercial facility operating behind that large roll down gate.  Rojas Mexican Bakery had a retail store and bakery for decades located next door at 406 15th Street but it was sold and demolished to make way for the Awful Amory Heights Plaza Parking garage and apartment building. The traditional breads they make are sold to restuarants in Sunset Park.
We used to see squirrels eatting the large round red sugar frosted loafs of bread up in the trees...they would raid the dumpsters and pig out.

    • thanks Totoro! That's got to be it. Shame the retail store isn't there anymore though.. it seems that entire block is slowly being converted into condos.
