What type of door do you have--Leading from parlor floor out onto a deck?

Hi--
We are the intial stages of planning for a deck on a parlor floor.  We'd like to take out a window and replace with a hinged door, preferable a steel and glass door.  We would be interested in knowing what type of door you have and any recommendations that you might have for service providers.  Also wondering whether you built a step up/step down inside of the door.

Thanks.

I framed the opening for the new door with a transom. I wanted as much light as possible. The door is fir with a large thermopane window. It was a special order from Lowes, around $500. My deck is level with the entrance. I can send you photos if you like. You can reach me through my website RickLaddBrooklyn.com

We used the existing window frame (which extended to the floor) and installed a custom wood door with single light and transom above. Outside we have a steel security gate. Our mistake was not creating a higher threshold (or a step up/step down as you mention). So there's definitely a little water penetration under the door in heavy rain storms that could have been avoided. Best upgrade? Last year we added an Eclipse Aira retractable screen door. It works like a roller blind hung horizontally. As well as enjoying much more fresh air in the rear parlor, we can also leave the door open (with the security gate closed of course) while we're out of the house so it doesn't heat up as much.

Thanks for your comments.  We are most likely going to use the existing window frame with a step up.  I like the idea of a screen with a security gate.
