Source for Bluestone or Slate Pavers?

12:02 PM 07/08/2011

Hi,
We are thinking of removing the cement in our front yard here in Brooklyn, creating a garden bed, and putting down either slate or bluestone pavers over the rest. Does anyone know of a good, local, affordable source for this kind of thing? Could be rectangular or random/jagged pieces...old or new...
We need about 135' sq. Any ideas?
Thanks so much!

Just went through this... If you want irregular pieces, Home Depot has them cheap. For large pieces, Extech in Red Hook has great customer service, but is a little more expensive than, say Kings Building Materials (kingsny.com) in Midwood. Slate will run you 6-7.50 / sq foot there, bluestone a little less.

Check out Craigs list. Alot of times people are installing new patios etc. A friend of mine got alot of beautiful bluestone for free from a contractor who just wanted to get rid of it when he was putting in a new patio for a customer. Turns out my friend knew the contractor. Worth giving it a shot as good quality bluestone isn't cheap.
