Hi Everyone,
I am seriously considering making an offer on a 4 story brownstone that has a center staircase on the parlor floor. Unfortunately, the staircase eats into the parlor and prevents the owner from closing it off to make it a private space (you end up with a living room on one side of the stairs and a dining room on the other with some dead space in between). I am trying to determine whether the staircase could be "flipped" so that the landing faces the front door or somehow made more compact so that the parlor can be closed off. Does anyone have any experience with a similar reno or know whether something like this can even be done? The staircase itself is in good shape and I would want to see it kept intact as much as possible.
Thanks!

I've done this. I can show you what the flipped staircase looks like. My house is on Dean Street in Crown Heights. Let me know if you'd like to drop by.
