Cat 6/Terminations

4:37 PM 01/14/2013

I need someone who can simple finish/terminate a couple of cat6 cable connections.
We ran new cable as part of a renovation, but the contractor never came back to do the terminations, I've tried and are not getting good connections.

Any recommendations for a job small like this?

I'm sure if you search within the site you can find a reco.
For what its worth I ended up doing it myself (although I never did it before). One thing I did learn is - buy easily terminated jacks. I highly recommend buying the Leviton Quickport jacks. You don't need a punchdown tool (comes with the tool to get the wires in). I made the mistake of buying cheaper jacks at Monoprice.com and eventually got rid oft them. The Leviton ones are pretty idiot proof (avail at Home Depot)

+1 on the Leviton Quickports.  You don't need anyone to help you with this.  Just follow the simple color coding using the included terminal tool.

    • The jacks have 2 patterns printed on them. Always use the 'B' pattern.

I have to say, I have had great luck with the monoprice jacks.  I wouldn't shy away from them.

    • Monoprice makes fantastic stuff, but with their keystone jacks you really need a proper punch down tool.
