chimney liner size for gas boiler

5:11 PM 01/07/2013

Hi there - any ideas what diameter liner I'll need for a gas boiler in a 2 family, 4 story home? We just had a new liner put in for oil boiler + 2 gas hot water heaters - 10" stainless steel (approved by DOB for dual-fuel). I'm hoping it'll be sufficient for a gas boiler, too? Any thoughts?

Thanks!

If it's good for oil, it's good for gas as long as both boilers are under 85% efficient.

as long as the gas fired atmospheric vented boiler is approximately the same amount of btus (probably less) than the oil fired unit that you are replacing...no problem

Phew - great, thank you both very much!
I don't want to go through the chimney relining process (and cost!) again, so this is good news. :)

call a chimney person to come look. we had a surprise with our oil to gas conversion where our basement filled with smoke and we had to do emergency relining. not fun at all.
