WINDOW INSTALLER RECOMMENDATION

6:21 PM 05/01/2012

After considering various manufacturers and installers to replace 13 windows for our landmarked brownstone, we went with Andrew Ferris (Ferris Construction)  (917) 584-7286. We used Marvin Ulitmate double hungs with aluminum cladding. Andrew and his crew did a great job removing the old windows and doing a complete brick to brick installation. Nice thorough installation w/o disturbing the exisiting interior casing. The finishing work was well done and they seem well insulated. Looks good inside and out.
Andrew handled the landmark permit application and delivered and installed as promised. He purchased the windows through Dyke's. We had one sash where the interior wood was a little damaged and not looking so good after installation, and Andrew (via Dyke's) requested a replacement from Marvin and it was ordered w/o an issue.
Tell him Jeff recommended him.

We got an estimate for 15 Marvins brick to brick non landmarked, cost $30,000 installed. How much was yours?

I'd like to know how much this job cost as well. I'm considering the same thing but with only five windows

Yes, it was Historical Windows. They specialize in Marvins. We have a vinyl-clad wood house, so they may have been including some changes to the vinyl in their estimate. In addition, they planned to do all the installation from the outside, so their estimate also included removing and reinstalling the historic black iron window bars on the first floor.

As the OP I will say that I recieved quotes form Histocial Windows as well. Their quote to do 7 of the 13 (the landmarked front) windows brick to brick, and 6  rear windows as insert windows was about 4% more than I paid to do all 13 brick to brick.

    • I forgot to add that the quote from Historical would have required an additional $1500 on top of that to do the landmark permit work. I will say that the salesperson seemed extremely professional and they seemed to be a solid company, however they were out of our budget.
