Homeowners Insurance for Townhouse

1:11 PM 02/08/2013

Is it worth using an insurance broker to obtain homeowner's insurance for a townhouse?  Any recommendations?

Personally, i'd look at who has the best claims and price those companies out.  No sense in saving a couple bucks when your claim (the reson you bought your insurance) is crap.

It can be more than just a "couple bucks". I got my original homeowner's policy with USAA, as I've been using them all my adult life and they usually have the best insurance rates around (and excellent customer service, to boot). Then they did an assessment and wanted to increase my rate by 50%! I shopped around, and Brownstone Agency was less than half the original price of USAA (and 1/3 the new price!), so I promptly switched. Haven't had any experience dealing with a claim yet, but all my neighbors and everyone on Brownstoner seems to use them (or Chubb) and like them.
