I just did a search and this person is registered with the DCA as a Home Improvement Salesperson, not a contractor.  He may negotiate a home improvement contract on behalf of a contractor, but hewould need to be licensed as a Home Improvement Contractor in order to legally be the contractor.  While we're at it - I assume you are also aware that electrical and plumbing work must only be performed by DOB licensed tradespeople - not just anyone that is hired by the Home Improvement Contractor you hire.

you can search for contractors and salespeople here:

If you are someone who loves to really do their due diligence, my understanding is that inquiring about any complaints against plumbers and electricians can only be made in writing to the Buildings Special Investigations Unit (BSIU) in writing at 83 Maiden Lane, 4th Floor NY, NY 10038 - and inquiring for any complaints about home improvement contractors can be done by calling the Department of Consumer Affairs through 311.

    Good luck!

Mr. Roder could yet be a licensed contractor, and very likely is, but under the name of his firm.  If so, he would certainly also appear under his personal name as a licensed home improvement sales person.  That is just the way they do it.  Looking up my personal name also gives only my sales license, you have to check my business name too.

Hi firm name is Empire State Remodellers . Which is licenced . But I've no idea how.
He did, or I should say half did , quite a lot of work for us, and I honestly would not recommend him to anybody.
He was never on site , unless he was picking up a check. He hired unlicenced sub-contractors (is this illegal? ) .
He hired terrible painters who painted directly over semi-gloss paint without prepping or priming, resulting in all the paint sliding off the wood as soon as we moved in.  Which also meant we had to temporaily re-vacate.
We moved in almost 3 months ago and are still finiding faults with the shortcuts he took.
He generally didn't seem to personally have any idea what he was doing . He's a salesman , not a worker. He hires the cheapest people he can sub to, and doesn't supervise them at all, most likely because he doesn't know how.
    Run away!

Gavolivia is correct on every aspect. Could not decide who was worse on his team, electrician, plumber or painter. Run the other direction.
