New Brownstone owner looking for Mantel

1:08 PM 05/12/2012

Hello Brownstoner community,
My wife and I are new owners of an Italianette Brownstone in Clinton Hill. At some point our front parlor lost its mantel. The majority of the Italianette houses that we've been in in Clinton Hill, Prospect Heights, Ft Green, Park Slope, Brooklyn Heights, etc. all have virtually the same mantel in the front parlor (sometimes referred to as a "big foot" mantel), and we're determined to find one that fits our chimney stack where the original was (measures 61.75" wide). I have Eddie on Greene and Kenny at Mercantile looking for one for me, and they've educated me on what they feel the retail value is, which we're willing to pay. I just thought I'd put the word out here in case anyone knows of one for sale. If we could hook up with a private seller it would obviously be a win-win.
I'm including a pic that I took of one such mantel. There are small variations from one to the next. Sometimes there are shells motifes, sometimes not, different keystones, etc. We're open to any options that can present themselves.
Thanks!

Try Manny Lassalle @ 917 292 1825. He has quite a selection od mantels, and he is an expert at fixing/installing them.

there was someone on here a few weeks - like two weeks - ago with a mantle for sale.  A nice old period one.  Scan back a little and you will find it.

Fireplace mantel or mantelpiece, also known as a chimneypiece, originated in medieval times as a hood that projected over a grate to catch the smoke. http://shifraconstructionny.co...

    Thanks for the replies everyone.
Manny LaSalle has actually been working in our house for the last few weeks rebuilding the fireboxes and running chimney liners. I know that Manny doesn't need any more references on Brownstoner, but I would abolutely recomend him and his team for any chimney, fireplace or masonary work. Manny has a lot of period mantels, but he doesn't have this one in this size right now. Eddie on Green just sold one a couple of months ago, right before I was ready to buy. I'm sure that with all of these guys on the lookout someone will turn one up. We're really determined to find an original that would do justice to the house, and we're willing to wait as long as it takes to fine the one.
TheTinkersWagon: I've been in touch with that person from a couple of weeks ago, but unfortunately I don't think that there's a deal there.
If anyone know of another for sale please let me know. We're willing to pay full market value.
    Thanks!
