Air conditioner installation

4:11 PM 08/09/2012

Just purchased a new 12,000 BTU window A/C unit which I thought I could install on my own since I'd done the last one, but didn't realize that the old one had a slide-in chassis, which makes for a much easier installation and this one does not. Wouldn't need a heavy-duty HVAC person, just someone handy enough to know how to do this and strong enough to lift the damned thing. Has some potential trickiness since it is going into a window that has a storm window and that makes the whole leveling thing a little tricky. Anyone know of anyone? I'm in Boerum Hill. Thanks!

I've used Brian Piersol as a handyman, he probably would do this kind of work.  Here is is contact info piersol33@gmail.com, 646-831-6481

Are you sure you did not buy a thru-the-wall unit by mistake? Most a/cs from 8000 btu up are now slide-in. In any case, unless you're prepared for the hassle of getting a handyman twice a year (or just not removing it in the winter), I'd return it and get a slide-in.

Thanks for your feedback. CMU, it seems that now they DON'T make the larger units with the slide-in chassis like they used to. I was quite surprised since doing them that way really makes it a lot easier to install.
